Kelly seeking Haydock glory
Shane Kelly will partner Terry Mills’ improving Resplendent Glory in a piece of work this week ahead of the William Hill Sprint Cup at Haydock Park on September 3.
Kelly’s mount is a 20-1 chance with the sponsors for the Group One six-furlong race after landing his past four starts.
The Namid colt was last seen holding Lafi’s late challenge in the Group Three Sprint Stakes at Sandown in July and has won six of his seven career outings.
“I hope to get down there some day this week and have a sit on him,” Kelly told At The Races.
“He is a really nice improving horse and Saturday week will be his biggest test, but I was speaking to the boss yesterday and he was telling me the horse is in good order. There hasn’t been a problem, he has just been aimed at this race.”
Resplendent Glory has won on fast and soft ground, with his jockey not concerned if conditions come up on the slow side at the Merseyside track.
He said: “Soft ground at Haydock would not be a problem as he needs a bit of ease in it, any softness in the ground will be an advantage for him.
“He is a real street-fighter and is only a three-year-old, so hopefully there will be more to come from him next year.”
