Pagan Sky (14-1) showed his appreciation for some cut in the ground and a first-time visor as he landed the williamhillpoker.com Handicap.

Tom Queally delivered James Toller’s gelding with a storming run to score by a length and a quarter from Montecito, with long-time leader Skylarker a head back in third.

Pagan Sky had looked a little lacklustre on each of his four starts since he was very badly hampered at Epsom in June and Toller felt that experience may have left a mark.

He said: “It was a very nasty incident in which he nearly came down and it took his confidence away – that’s why we put a visor on which has definitely helped.

“The race I’ll look at now is the Courage Handicap at Newbury but whether he gets in that remains to be seen.”
