David Elsworth’s The Geezer tops a field of six St Leger entries that will go to post for the Daily Telegraph Great Voltigeur Stakes at York tomorrow.
The Jeff Smith-owned colt will be bidding to enhance his claims for next month’s Ladbrokes-sponsored Classic – for which he is a general 7-1 chance - with victory in the Group Two contest.
The Geezer was last seen landing the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, when he had Brahminy Kite back in third, with the latter forming part of a two-pronged attack from Mark Johnston.
Joining Brahminy Kite will be his stablemate Melrose Avenue, winner of the Queen’s Vase at the Royal meeting, with the once-raced Avalon representing the powerful combination of Aidan O’Brien and Kieren Fallon.
Kong will have his first outing since finishing last in the Vodafone Derby with Sir Michael Stoute’s Lingfield winner Hard Top completing the field.
