The president of the Irish Equestrian Federation has failed to convince Jessica Kuerten to re-join the Irish showjumping team for an event at the end of this month.

The rider is refusing to participate alongside Cian O'Connor, whose horse tested positive for banned drugs at the Athens Olympics.

The Equestrian Federation is backing O'Connor and its president, Avril Doyle, is reported to have travelled to Germany this week to try to persuade Kuerten to change her mind.

However, the mission was unsuccessful.
