Light campaign for Shumaal

Clive Brittain plans to give Irish Derby fifth Bahar Shumaal an easy time for the rest of the season before bringing him back with a four-year-old campaign in mind.

The Dubai Millennium colt headed to Ireland on the back of an impressive win at Sandown, and finished just over 10 lengths behind the victorious Hurricane Run on his first crack at Pattern company.

“He came back from Ireland and he had a problem with one of his feet. Ted Durcan said the horse was never letting himself go during the race,” said Brittain.

“His problem has been treated and we will now just bring him along and he will have another couple of runs this year, but his main forte will be as a four-year-old.

“He is such a big horse and is crying out to be a four-year-old, so that is the line I will be going along. He won’t have too hard a time this year but hopefully we will have a Group One horse for next year.”
