Benbaun landed an early blow for the visitors on Irish Derby day when running out an impressive winner of the Listed King Of Beer Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon.

Eight of the 13 runners in the five-furlong dash hailed from Britain, and it was Newmarket-based Mark Wallace who took the prize as his 13-2 shot powered away for a length-and-a-half victory under Kieren Fallon.

The four-year-old was always handy as Osterhase set the pace, and surged clear in the final two furlongs to beat the 9-2 favourite in style, with William Haggas’s Majestic Missile running on from mid-division to take third.
