House takes Ripon glory

Zabeel House romped home like a long odds-on shot should in the opening race at Ripon today.

Ed Dunlop’s youngster was sent off at 1-4 for the EBF Go Racing In Yorkshire Maiden Stakes on the strength of a promising debut at Doncaster 12 days ago.

His supporters never had a moment’s anxiety as he made virtually all the running under Jamie Spencer.

The favourite drew clear approaching the final furlong to beat Speciosa by an easy two lengths with another four back to the third, Fruit Salad.

After dismounting, Spencer said: “He’s a grand horse and he did everything right but he hit every ridge though.”
