Royal meeting missing Something Exciting

Something Exciting will skip next week’s Royal Ascot at York fixture as trainer David Elsworth feels the meeting will come too soon after her gallant run in the Vodafone Oaks.

The Halling filly found only Eswarah too strong in last Friday’s Classic, with the pair pulling clear of Pictavia.

Elsworth was delighted with his filly, who had landed the Lupe Stakes on her seasonal reappearance, but is keen to give her a break and is eyeing a possible crack at the Yorkshire Oaks in August.

“It’s very doubtful that we’ll ask her to run in the Ribblesdale because of its close proximity to Epsom,” said Elsworth.

“She seems OK after her run, while showing me at the same time that she’s had a race, but that’s something you would expect.

“She is not in the Irish Oaks but there is a possibility we could supplement her for it, while looking further ahead the Yorkshire Oaks would be an obvious target. It closes this week and is an attractive proposition, especially when you consider how expensive it is to supplement in Ireland.”

Elsworth took Something Exciting’s defeat firmly on the chin but feels his Vodafone Derby eighth The Geezer did not enjoy the best of runs.

“I was proud of the filly but Eswarah just found a bit more,” added Elsworth.

“On the other hand I was totally disappointed with The Geezer, who never really got into the race and I’m dithering as to where he will go next.”
