Morning puts out Light
New Morning held off the late challenge of North Light to land the betfair.com Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown Park tonight.
Philip Robinson bounced the Michael Jarvis-trained filly out of the stalls in the Group Three contest and led all the way.
Johnny Murtagh settled North Light in third, but he was sending out distress signals early in the straight on last season’s Derby hero and seemed to be getting nowhere.
The four-year-old ran on really well towards the end of the 10-furlong contest, however.
New Morning (12-1) was a diminishing half a length ahead at the line, with Mubtaker a further length and a half away in third.
