Fallon edged out in Musselburgh opener
Trivandrun finished fast to deny Kieren Fallon a winner in the One Spa Maiden Stakes at Musselburgh today.
The former champion rode Ashkal Way in the one-mile contest and he looked all set to score – much to the delight of the crowd – when he hit the front entering the final furlong.
However, Royston Ffrench had got Trivandrun into top gear on the outside and the Mark Johnston-trained filly produced a powerful late burst to catch Ashkal Way right on the line and secure a short-head success.
After greeting the 17-2 winner, the trainer’s wife Deirdre Johnston said: “That was close but I just thought she’d got it. I watched it on the television and it looked as though she’d just got there.
“She is still a bit green. Each time she’s run she’s run here and she has just got to know where the winning post is now – it took three attempts. She probably wants a bit further.”
