Cruz has no stamina worries

Tony Cruz, trainer of the great Silent Witness, believes his unbeaten gelding will be able to see out the distance in the Champions Mile at Sha Tin on Saturday.

The sprint sensation will tackle the distance for the first time this weekend, having successfully stepped up to seven furlongs when landing his 17th straight win last month.

“The bottom line is that we wouldn’t be running him if we didn’t think he would get the trip,” said Cruz.

“I’d like for the ground to hold up and be on the fast side for him,” he added.

Cruz’s six-year-old cantered this morning under regular work partner Felix Coetzee and will have his final gallop before Saturday’s big race, in which he will lock horns with Attraction, on Thursday.
