Tycoon destroyed after UAE breakdown

Last year’s St Leger and Irish Derby third Tycoon had to be destroyed after breaking down badly as the UAE racing season drew to a close at Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Now with Mazim Al Kurdi, the then Aidan O’Brien-trained son of Sadler’s Wells was also an unlucky-in-running sixth behind Doyen in the King George And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes.

The 11-furlong Listed race went to Doug Watson’s Mutasallil who prevailed under a fine front-running ride from Richard Hills.

Mutasallil’s win was the 50th of the campaign for Watson, leaving him trailing Al Kurdi by three as the Syrian defended his trainers’ title successfully – as did Sheikh Rashid (owner) and Ted Durcan (jockey.)

Watson has enjoyed a great second season with a licence and he said: “I am happy with the win and Richard has given him a great ride. It has been a great year and we have been blessed with some good horses.”
