Nina Carberry, younger sister of top Irish jockey Paul and daughter of Gold Cup winning rider Tommy, has landed a plum ride at Cheltenham next week.

The 20-year-old 5lb-claiming amateur rider will partner the unbeaten Karanja for Victor Dartnall in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper.

“Nina Carberry rides him. She won on him at Newbury last time,” said the Barnstaple trainer today.

“The horse is in great form and did a nice piece of work this morning. He’s a tough customer who takes his racing well, but it looks like being a hot race especially with the Irish runners.”

Karanja, a six-year-old gelding by Karinga Bay, has created a big impression so far, winning all his three bumpers at Sandown, Windsor and Newbury.

He is 10-1 second favourite for the Champion Bumper.
