Easier next visit for Gassman

Ferdy Murphy will drop Your A Gassman back in class after a disappointing run in the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster yesterday.

The seven-year-old was sent off the 15-8 favourite for the three-mile race but he failed to figure, finishing a distant sixth behind Colourful Life.

Your A Gassman had previously won two of his four starts over fences but he had unseated his rider when hampered by a faller in the Grade One Feltham Novices’ Chase at Kempton.

Murphy felt that the incident may have played a role in Your A Gassman’s performance at Doncaster.

“He’s grand this morning, not a bother on him,”said Murphy. “I think he was just a bit novicey at the first few fences and once you’ve been like that, you’re alway going to struggle. It was just one of those things.

“His jumping was a bit big and deliberate – he might have just remembered Kempton last time.

“We’ll look for a handy little race up north for him now just to get him back on track and then see how he comes out of that.”

Murphy was also slightly disappointed by Hot Weld’s run after he was pulled up in the Brit Insurance River Don Novices’ Hurdle.

The six-year-old had finished behind Gold Medallist at Kempton but he was never travelling yesterday.

“He probably had a harder race than we thought at Kempton and we ran him fairly quickly after which may have told,” he explained.

“We scoped him after the race and there was a little bit of mucus there but nothing too serious. It’s back to the drawing board for him now.”
