Fallon enjoys Love success
Former champion jockey Kieren Fallon notched up the second winner of his stint at Gulfstream Park last night when Angela’s Love took the Marshua’s River Stakes.
Fallon, who got off the mark at the Florida track on Friday, is spending the winter riding in the United States before returning to Britain in April to try to win back his title from Frankie Dettori.
He had the Dale Romans-trained mare smartly out of the gate in the extended mile turf race and was able to cross over to the rails berth as he took the field along at a steady pace.
Angela’s Love quickened up on the bend out of the back straight and had her rivals in trouble when she hit the home stretch before running on resolutely to beat Delta Princess by two and a half lengths.
Fallon told gulfstreampark.com: “She’s really easy to ride, especially when she gets the lead. She likes the lead. Once she got out there it was very easy.”
Owned by Bill and Vicki Poston, Angela’s Love was sent off at around 7-1 and delighted her trainer, who expects big things from her this year.
He said: “When I entered this race, I thought it would be easy. I thought we’d be the favourite. But the race came up a lot tougher than I thought it would.
“I was very pleased. I think she’s got a great future on the turf. This was just the first stop of what we hope will be a long, successful year.”
