Trainer Michael O’Brien is eyeing a big-race double with Essex after the five-year-old justified favouritism in the Pierse Hurdle at Leopardstown yesterday.

Having landed one of Ireland’s hottest handicaps of the season, Essex is now to be targeted at the Tote Gold Trophy at Newbury on February 12.
