Batman Senora’s bid to win the biggest chase of the Cagnes-Sur-Mer winter meeting ended in failure today.

The Ian Williams-trained nine-year-old, who has done nearly all his racing in France, was settled in second place behind Grand Charles for most of the way in the Grand Prix De La Ville De Nice.

However, when the pace picked up in the back straight for the final time in the marathon three-mile-seven-furlong contest, Batman Senora rapidly backpedalled through the field.

Sphinx Du Berlais, who won the meeting’s main hurdle race only three days ago, looked set to complete the double after the last, but Dauphin Des Carres came from some way back to grab the €52,000 first prize by three-quarters of a length.
