New date for Castleford Chase
Wetherby’s skybet.com Castleford Chase, which was lost to the weather yesterday, has been rescheduled for next Monday’s meeting at the West Yorkshire track.
The Grade Two contest, with prize money totalling £50,000 (€71,100), was to have featured Arkle Trophy winner Well Chief in a 10-strong field but the meeting was abandoned because of frost.
The race has been saved thanks to the efforts of officials at Wetherby, Skybet, the British Horseracing Board and the Levy Board.
Wetherby chief executive Tim Betteridge said: “It’s a Bank Holiday programme next Monday and it will be an eight-race card. Entries close on Wednesday. We are re-opening the Castleford.
“It will still be a £50,000 (€71,100) race. We are finalising the running order, race times and stuff like that. But we’ll try again next Monday. That’s the message.”
