Kempton and Wetherby to have second inspections

Officials at Kempton and Wetherby will hold second inspections of their tracks this morning.

Kempton officials will hold their inspection at 10am but are “very hopeful” racing will take place at the Sunbury venue this afternoon.

After checking at 8am, clerk of the course Brian Clifford said: “We’re having another look but we’re very hopeful. We’re nearly raceable now, we just want to make sure.

“Temperatures got gown to minus three overnight but are starting to rise now and it should lift.”

Wetherby are to hold a second inspection at 9.30am to assess prospects for racing this afternoon.

After looking at 7.30am, chief executive Tim Betteridge said: “Temperatures dipped to around minus one last night and there are just a couple of areas giving us cause for concern at the moment.

“Temperatures are set to rise during the morning, it’s just a question of how quickly they do so. We want to give it every chance, which is why we’ve gone for a second inspection.”
