Switzerland enjoys last-gasp win

Switzerland’s Beat Mandli and Principal raced through with a late run at London’s Olympia Showjumping to snatch the opening Shelley Ashman, BEIB & Equine Risk Stakes from Robert Smith and Kalusha by 0.13 seconds.

The 12-year-old grey Kalusha, winner of the World Cup round in Vigo, Spain, last February, has scored in Belfast and Geneva in the last ten days to help Smith win two cars, completing a treble with the one he had already secured in Stuttgart.

English rider Guy Williams won a place in Monday’s Mitsubishi Motors Ride & Drive Final, that carries a £17,000 (€24,800) car prize, when he jumped seven fences on Onyx V followed by a twisting drive through cones in a car, to beat Mark Armstrong on Rex by 3.5 seconds in a total time of 70.68 seconds.
