Rathgar Beau wins in Cork
Rathgar Beau justified favouritism with a smooth victory in the O’Connell Warehousing Hilly Way Chase at Cork today.
The 7-4 shot, who split Kicking King and Beef Or Salmon at Punchestown last Sunday, gained his just reward in this Grade Two contest.
Shay Barry had the Eamon Sheehy-trained seven-year-old in midfield in the early stages as Mistletoeandwine led, before making his move on the turn for home with three to jump.
Timmy Murphy made a bid for glory on Central House, but they were headed at the last by Rathgar Beau, who was going easily and went clear on the run to the line.
Central House held on to second place, with Mistletoeandwine third.
The Philip Hobbs-trained Flagship Uberalles, ridden by Richard Johnson, could not get in a blow and finished fifth.
