Simply Supreme ruled out of Hennessy

Leading Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup hope Simply Supreme will miss next Saturday’s Newbury showpiece.

A smart novice last season, Sue Smith’s gelding was a best-priced 11-1 after trotting up on his seasonal debut at Carlisle last month.

But the Bingley trainer told the Racing Post: “He won’t run in the Hennessy and we will have to play things by ear. There is slight heat in a leg and he is not 100 per cent, so he has to miss the race.

“He has been scanned but there is not a definitive answer and we can’t risk him. He will probably have to have a fair bit of time off.”
