Six rivals to Best Mate on Friday
Triple Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Best Mate will face a maximum of six rivals when he makes his scheduled return to action in the William Hill Chase at Exeter on Friday.
The race had been reopened until 9.15am today after attracting fewer than eight entries on Saturday, but no further additions were made to the field.
The chief threat to Henrietta Knight’s star looks to be the Robert Alner-trained Sir Rembrandt, who has half a length to find from blue riband in March with the benefit of a run under his belt already this season.
A decision on who rides Best Mate in the absence of the injured Jim Culloty is expected to be made later today – Timmy Murphy and Tony McCoy are the men in the frame.
