Nasty spill for Aspell

Paddy Aspell is thought to have broken his upper right arm after his tumble at Sedgefield yesterday.

The conditional jockey took a heavy fall from the Ginger McCain-trained Red Lion at the last fence of the John Smith’s Extra Smooth Handicap Chase.

“I have not had word from the hospital, but they think he has broken his upper right arm, although one of the lads who was there at the time thought that he could have dislocated his shoulder too,” said Aspell’s agent Richard Hale.

“He was taken to hospital last night, and I have not had news of his release, but I understood that they would probably release him today.”
