Irish trainer Dermot Weld has given the go-ahead for Vinnie Roe to run in the Emirates Melbourne Cup after walking the track at Flemington on the morning of the ‘race that stops a nation’.

Weld, who has already won the two-mile contest twice with Vintage Crop and Media Puzzle, had been worried the ground might be too firm for his four-time Irish St Leger winner.
