McEvoy likely for Razkalla mount

Razkalla looks like being Kerrin McEvoy’s mount for Godolphin in the Emirates Melbourne Cup at Flemington next Tuesday.

With their number one retained rider Frankie Dettori already booked for Mamool, Godolphin are finalising plans for their other two entries, Razkalla and Fantastic Love.

“I think that’s the plan,” McEvoy told At The Races today.

“We are going to sit down and decide later this week, but that’s the feeling I’m getting.

“I’m not sure if all three horses will run – that’s a decision they have to make.”

The 24-year-old Australian, who won the Melbourne Cup on Brew in 2000, returned home following the Champions’ Day meeting at Newmarket earlier this month after his grandfather sustained fatal injuries in a riding accident.

McEvoy believes that last year’s winner Makybe Diva will be hard to beat even though no mare has won recorded back-to-back victories.

“She’s been in great form and her run in the Caulfield Cup was fantastic. She was second and just got beat.

“She goes on any ground. I imagine that the form she’s in she’ll be very hard to beat.”

McEvoy was not so enthusiastic about last year’s runner-up She’s Archie.

“She’s had a little bit of a problem with an injury in the last week and she’s not a certain starter so I think they are going to make a decision about her later in the week.”

The jockey reported that plenty of rain had fallen in Melbourne in the last 24 hours.

He said: “They’ve had about an inch and a half of rain in Melbourne just in the last day and they’ve had a meeting called off at Werribee today so I imagine if doesn’t rain up to the end of the week it will be pretty dead ground.”
