Far East beckons for Rakti

Brilliant Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Rakti is on course to bid for two prestigious mile events in the Far East.

The five-year-old, winner of five Group One races, is to take in the Mile Championship in Kyoto, Japan, on November 21 before going his main end-of-term target, the Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin on December 12.

Rakti, whose successes at the highest level have come over distances between a mile and a mile and a half, finished second in the Hong Kong Cup behind Falbrav over a mile and a quarter last year.

But on the back of a fine victory in last month’s QEII, the Hong Kong Mile is first preference this time.

Reporting Rakti in good form after a workout on Newmarket Heath, Jarvis said: “He’s very well and I think he has ample speed to win a top mile race overseas.

“It’s hard to know what his best trip is, but we have opted for the Mile in Japan and Hong Kong as we think it will suit him best.”
