Ouija to run in Filly & Mare race

Ouija Board has been confirmed as a runner in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Lone Star Park on Saturday.

Connections of the dual-Oaks winning three-year-old had been considering whether she should contest the Breeders’ Cup Turf on the same card, but have decided to keep her against her own sex.

Of greater concern to her trainer Ed Dunlop is the ground at the Texas track, which was officially declared as soft.

Ouija Board, a close third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on her latest start, was withdrawn by the Newmarket handler from the Yorkshire Oaks in August on account of similar conditions, but he is hopeful that it will not be as testing by Saturday.

“We will go for the Filly & Mare Turf,” Dunlop told the Racing Post.

“As you know, the weather hasn’t been that favourable, but my staff have walked the track and it is only on the slow side of good, and the forecast for later in the week is a lot better.

“There is plenty of time for it to dry out again in the next few days and, hopefully if that forecast is correct the ground should not be a problem.”
