Amberleigh possible for Wetherby

Grand National winner Amberleigh House could continue his build up to another crack at the Aintree marathon with an outing at Wetherby on Saturday.

Ginger McCain has entered his popular 12-year-old in both the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase and the “Dine And View” Handicap Chase on the same card after he made a disappointing seasonal bow when only ninth in a hurdle race at Haydock last week.

“He is a possible for Wetherby, but I have not decided yet,” said McCain.

“To be honest, I was disappointed with him at Haydock, but he did rattled a hurdle on the way round. That caused a bit of swelling but he cantered on Monday morning and is fine.

“He hardly had a race there and he showed us that he is not a hurdler anymore, he needs fences and he had a big task – giving all that weight away.”

Amberleigh House came from out of the clouds in last year’s Grand National when beating Clan Royal by three lengths, having finished a short head behind that same rival in last November’s Becher Chase.

“His main aim is the Becher next month and we could go there cold, but I would like to get another run into him although there aren’t many options, so we could run at Wetherby,” added the Cholmondeley-based handler.
