Dettori breaks away on Firebreak

Frankie Dettori and Firebreak (11-2) made virtually all the running to claim the seven-furlong Victor Chandler Challenge Stakes.

Dettori - virtually assured of becoming champion jockey - raced away from the stands rail and never had to get that serious on the five-year-old, who saw off former Lockinge winner Keltos by a length, with Polar Bear a further neck back in third.

The son of Charnwood Forest was emulating his sire, who took this Group Two contest in 1996.

Dettori told Channel 4: "I'm delighted with that - he's Mister Consistency. He never runs a bad race and is fantastic to have around.

“The ground looks rough on the inside. I was drawn outside and I found a nice strip where it wasn’t cut up, and I decided to use that.”
