Beef Or Salmon could make his eagerly awaited reappearance in the Anglo-Irish Bank Munster Grand National at Limerick on Sunday.
Michael Hourigan’s stable star had a fruitful but interrupted second season as a chaser with three wins and a close fourth behind Best Mate in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup.
He has been visiting an equine physiotherapist to ensure the back problems he suffered last term do not recur.
The popular eight-year-old was last seen impressively winning the Punchestown Heineken Gold Cup at the end of April from Harbour Pilot and First Gold.
The trainer confirmed today that Timmy Murphy will get the ride in Sunday’s three-mile contest, where Beef Or Salmon, being one of the highest rated jumpers in training would be required to carry top weight.
“He is likely to run and he is in good form,” said Hourigan. “I am not worried about him having a big weight, the only reason he has a big weight is because he is the horse that he is.
“He has had very little physiotherapy recently, it has just been to make sure that everything is still okay. Timmy Murphy will ride.”
