Dubawi wins National Stakes
Dubawi justified his big reputation with an impressive success in the Dunnes Stores National Stakes at the Curragh.
Under Frankie Dettori, the 8-13 favourite tracked leader Russian Blue for much of the Group One contest before being sent to the front two furlongs from home.
The son of Dubai Millennium immediately quickened clear, and although he idled slightly in front, he kept on well for a three length victory from the running-on Berenson, with Russian Blue back in third.
Bookmakers were impressed by the performance, with Ladbrokes cutting him to 14-1 from 25-1 for next year's 2000 Guineas, while Victor Chandler go 12-1 from the same price for the Newmarket Classic.
But the colt is even shorter for the Derby, with both firms making him favourite at this stage – Ladbrokes going 10-1 from 16s and Victor Chandler 12-1 from 25s.
A delighted Dettori said: "He travelled like a good horse and I set him alight a furlong and a half out. He was a bit cheeky with me and looked at the crowd but he won like a really good horse.
“I like his attitude and he is a great prospect for next year.”
