Law stands ground for Leger

Ante-post favourite Rule Of Law is among 13 horses confirmed for the betfair.com St Leger at today's five-day stage.

The Great St Voltigeur Stakes winner is Godolphin’s sole representative in the world’s oldest Classic at Doncaster on Saturday after they took out recent York winner Into The Dark.

Godolphin and trainer Saeed bin Suroor will be seeking their fourth Leger triumph.

Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has two Leger victories to his name, has left in five – Tycoon, Go For Gold, Acropolis, Mikado and Two Miles West.

The Leger is the only British Classic to elude Sir Michael Stoute but the Newmarket trainer is hoping to put that right this year and is currently double-handed with Yorkshire Oaks winner Quiff and Maraahel, successful in the Amro Stakes at Goodwood.

Percussionist has also been left in by John Gosden but he is not certain to run.

The son of Sadler’s Wells was last seen when finishing tailed off behind Grey Swallow in the Irish Derby.

Percussionist had previously finished fourth in the Derby at Epsom but the Sangster family-owned colt has a number of other options.

“I have not been able to speak to John Gosden yet today as he is up at Doncaster sales but I wouldn’t say he was a definite runner,” said Ben Sangster.

“We have got an open mind with him and we want to see what is in the Prix Niel at Longchamp and the Arc trial at Newbury a week on Saturday.

“He’s in very good form but the bottom line with this horse is that we will do what’s right for him.

“We will probably make a decision on Wednesday or Thursday,” he added.
