Quinn to partner Lion
Richard Quinn is set to take the ride on Let The Lion Roar in next Saturday’s betfair.com St Leger at Doncaster.
The John Dunlop-trained colt has been ridden by Michael Kinane on each of his five starts this season, but he is committed to riding Azamour in the Baileys Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on the same day.
Quinn will now step in for the ride on the son of Sadler’s Wells – who finished third in the Vodafone Derby and second in the Great Voltigeur at York on his last start.
Terry Norman, Quinn’s agent, said: “Richard has been booked on the basis that Mick Kinane is riding Azamour in Ireland.
“He is chuffed to bits. If the ground continues to dry up it could go against one or two of the others and he would have a good chance.”
Quinn has been on the sidelines for nearly five weeks after fracturing a bone in his knee but he is expected to be back in action at Lingfield on Tuesday.
“He went for a final scan today and it was all clear and the bone has knitted perfectly,” added Norman. “He probably could have ridden today but we’re going to leave it until Tuesday, when he’s got one ride booked at Lingfield.
“Let The Lion Roar will be his first big race when he’s back but he’s got some really good rides booked for the whole of the Leger meeting.”
