Papinau's season over

Ascot Gold Cup winner Papineau will miss the rest of the season and with it a crack at the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

The Godolphin runner has not raced since beating Westerner by one and a half lengths to land the stayers’ crown at the Royal meeting in June.

Trainer Saeed Bin Suroor said today: “Papineau has had a setback. It’s nothing serious, but we will give him an easy time and bring him back next year.”
