Ground will determine Jem plan

George Margarson will wait to see what happens with the weather before committing Polar Jem to an outing at Windsor on Saturday.

The Polar Falcon filly originally held an entry in the Group Three Stan James Winter Hill Stakes at the Berkshire track, but will instead run in the Listed August Stakes on the same card if the ground is suitable.

If the going is too soft, she will instead head to Yarmouth for the John Musker Fillies’ Stakes on September 15.

“She will go to Windsor as long as the ground is OK,” said Margarson. “We decided to miss the Group Three because it looks tough, with the likes of Gateman in there.

“Otherwise, we will wait for the race at Yarmouth, although she might have an entry in the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster. That is over a mile and six but she runs as though she would stay that trip.

“She’s a lot better on good to firm ground, although she ran a blinder in the John Smith’s Cup at York to finish sixth on good ground.”
