Nayyir poised for celebration

Nayyir, who just lost out on Group One glory in last month’s Sussex Stakes, will face a maximum of 12 rivals in Saturday’s totesport Celebration Mile at Goodwood.

Gerard Butler’s charge will be ridden by Michael Kinane in the Group Two contest and features among a 13-strong cast at the five-day declaration stage.

The six-year-old came with a late run to finish second to Soviet Song at the Glorious meeting, and gained his most recent victory when winning the 2003 Lennox Stakes at the track.

He could lock horns again with Sussex Stakes contenders Hurricane Alan, Checkit and Tillerman.

The latter, trained by Amanda Perrett, is chasing his first win of the season, but landed the 2002 Celebration Mile and finished third 12 months ago behind Priors Lodge.

Passing Glance, who finished runner-up on that occasion, has again been entered in the £100,000 (€148,595) contest by Andrew Balding, while Ed Dunlop could run totesport International Stakes winner Court Masterpiece.

Godolphin’s Ancient World landed some hefty bets when taking the William Hill Mile at the Glorious meeting and was last seen finishing eighth in the Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury.

He is one of two Godolphin entries, the other being Kheleyf, while Chic could make a quick reappearance after running out an impressive winner of the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.

Naahy, Suggestive, Brunel and Kings Point complete the entries.
