Hurricane ready for knockout blow

Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Captain Hurricane is reported to be in good form ahead of tomorrow’s Prix Morny at Deauville.

The two-year-old was second on his first two starts before landing the Group Two July Stakes at Newmarket last time out.

He will be reopposed by the John Gosden-trained Mystical Land, who was third on that occasion.

Chapple-Hyam had originally suggested this week’s Gimcrack Stakes at York as a target, but decided to go for Group One honours in France instead.

“He’s very well, and I nominated this race instead of the Gimcrack because he doesn’t have to carry a 5lb penalty,” said the Newmarket trainer.

“It will be soft, but everyone else has to get on with it too.”

The six-furlong contest has attracted seven other runners, including Mick Channon’s Molecomb Stakes victor Tournedos, Doctor’s Cave from Clive Brittain’s yard, and Aidan O’Brien’s representative Russian Blue.
