Jeremy Noseda is praying for more rain at York to help Balmont in his quest for Group One glory in the Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes at York tomorrow.

Jeremy Noseda is praying for more rain at York to help Balmont in his quest for Group One glory in the Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes at York tomorrow.

Winner of the Gimcrack Stakes over six furlongs at this meeting 12 months ago, Balmont was beaten on his first attempt at the minimum trip last month.

His Newmarket conqueror, Bahamian Pirate, is among a field of 16 declared at yesterday’s 48-hour final stage.

“I’m very happy with Balmont’s condition approaching the race,” Noseda told wwww.jeremynoseda.com.

“However, I’m hoping that the wet weather continues at York as I believe he will need soft ground to be fully effective over five furlongs.”

Balmont had finished a highly-promising third to Frizzante in the July Cup on his only previous start this season – his first race for nine months.

Favourite for the Group One sprint at 3-1 with Coral is One Cool Cat.
