Holland hits century mark
Darryll Holland rode his 100th winner in the jockeys’ title race when Moth Ball landed the EBF Chichester City Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Goodwood this evening.
Holland made most of the running on Jamie Osborne’s two-year-old, a 3-1 chance, and held the challenge of Yajbill by three-quarters of a length.
The jockey was completing a double following a victory on the Peter Harris-trained Sky Quest (6-1) in the BBC Southern Counties Radio Handicap.
Holland is not completely out of the title race, which includes only winners since the start of the turf Flat season on March 25, but he is a long way behind leader Kieren Fallon now.
Fallon’s victory on John Dunlop’s Flying Adored (6-1) in the BBC South Today Stakes was his 119th of the championship, while Frankie Dettori is stuck on 112 as he rides in the United States.
Seb Sanders went into the evening meeting on 111 and drew level with Dettori when he brought the Peter Makin-trained Canterloupe (5-1) with a storming late run to snatch the Jilly Cooper OBE Fillies’ Stakes under a strong drive.
