Heavy rain has forced Newcastle racecourse to hold a precautionary inspection at 8am tomorrow ahead of their meeting on Friday afternoon.

Adverse weather conditions have seen the going at Gosforth Park ease to heavy, soft in places and clerk of the course James Armstrong, said: “We have had 64mm of rain since Monday morning.

“We are at present just raceable but we are going to have a precautionary inspection at 8am tomorrow morning.

“We are due to get the odd shower this afternoon, but nothing too heavy, and it shouldn’t amount to more than a couple of millimetres.

“The problem really arises after our inspection tomorrow because we could get up to an inch of rain from midday through to Friday, and it would be a problem if that arrived.”
