Strong entry for Champagne Stakes
Doncaster’s Group Two Champagne Stakes on September 10 has attracted 124 entries, including Mark Johnston’s ultra-impressive Glorious Goodwood winner Shamardal.
The Giant’s Causeway colt is the current favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas after his authoritative two-and-a-half length victory over Wilko in the Group Two Vintage Stakes on only the second run of his life.
Another notable entrant for the forthcoming seven-furlong event at the St Leger meeting is Godolphin’s Superlative Stakes winner Dubawi.
The two-year-old son of Dubai Millennium won praise for his battling qualities when holding off Henrik in the Group Three event at Newmarket last month.
Godolphin have also entered the highly-regarded Belenus who won a maiden at the same course.
Other entries include Henry Cecil’s Newmarket maiden winner Camacho, the John Gosden-trained Iceman, who won Royal Ascot’s Coventry Stakes and Aidan O’Brien’s Anglesey Stakes winner Oratorio.
