Light could run in International Stakes

Vodafone Derby winner North Light may drop back in trip and take his chance in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York next month.

A winner over the 10-furlong trip on the Knavesmire in May, Sir Michael Stoute’s charge went on to score in the Epsom Classic and only found Grey Swallow too good last time out in the Budweiser Irish Derby.

The son of Danehill returned home sore from his Curragh exertions, forcing him to miss this weekend’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, but he could be back on the track on August 17.

“When a horse has problems, Sir Michael gives them plenty of time to get over them, but the horse is absolutely fine, to the best of my knowledge,” Peter Reynolds, manager of North Light’s owners Ballymacoll Stud, told the Daily Mirror.

“It is a challenge to bring him back from a mile and half but he has won the Dante over that trip at York.

“The last Derby winner we had, Troy, went to the race and he just beat a horse of Paul Cole’s called Crimson Beau.

“I will speak to the great man (Stoute) on Saturday morning and we will discuss final plans at the end of the week.”
