Nordwind breezes in

Favourite backers suffered disappointment in the opening contest at Lingfield Park this afternoon when 10-11 market-leader Revenir could finish only second.

Frankie Dettori tried to make all in the first division of the Dormansland Median Auction Maiden Stakes aboard the Alec Stewart-trained colt, but he was collared down the home straight by the well-supported 11-8 chance Nordwind.

Making his third racecourse appearance, the Peter Harris-trained winner showed more resolution than his rival in the final stages to gallop clear and score by three and a half lengths.

Representing Harris, stable spokesman Pete Mason said: “This mile is his absolute minimum trip and we could well step him up from here.

“We have thought a bit of him for a long time and we will enjoy this first before we start to plan where he goes next.”
