Holland to resume riding tomorrow

Darryll Holland will miss his rides at Southwell this evening after taking a crashing fall in the opening race at Bath yesterday afternoon.

The jockey suffered widespread bruising when his mount Value Plus was brought down after Miss Cassia slipped and fell on the home turn in the Haven Holidays At Devoncliffs Median Auction Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

However, he has not suffered any serious damage and Holland, who currently lies second in the jockeys’ championship, hopes to be back in action at Brighton tomorrow afternoon.

“Darryll finished a session of physio at about 11.30am and he was feeling a lot better after that,” his agent Matt Chapman said today.

“However, the physio advised him to rest for the remainder of the day and he is taking that advice. He is gutted not to be riding at Southwell as he looked to have some excellent chances there.

“Darryll will have more physio tomorrow morning and fully intends to ride at Brighton tomorrow afternoon.

“It was a horrible fall at Bath, so we just have to thank our lucky stars his injuries are only minor – it has left us both frustrated, though, as he had 18 winners in the previous two weeks which is more than in any other period since I have started booking rides for him.

“The momentum was with us, and we need to get it back as soon as possible to carry on battle for the jockeys’ championship.”

Holland had a full book of rides at Southwell today and has acquired mounts in all six races at Brighton tomorrow.

He has ridden 97 winners so far this year and was just four behind Kieren Fallon in the Flat jockeys’ championship before racing today.
