Frizzante tipped to complete Fanshawe double

Course specialist Frizzante will bid to give Newmarket trainer James Fanshawe a quick Group One double at his local track tomorrow.

The Falmouth Stakes is already in the bag courtesy of Soviet Song and, with rain forecast for Headquarters, Fanshawe is hopeful of a bold show from the five-year-old mare in the six-furlong Darley July Cup.

“She’s drawn high (18), but she seems in good form and a drop of rain would help her,” he told At The Races.

Four of Frizzante’s last five races have come at Newmarket, three of them being successful ones, not least on 2000 Guineas day when she landed some hefty bets in the Palace House Stakes.

“I think she would have won the King’s Stand if it had been six (furlongs), but that was at Ascot and this is Newmarket and she likes Newmarket,” Fanshawe said.

Any likely winner tomorrow is sure to need a slice of good fortune with a maximum field of 20 set to go to post.

“In a race with that many runners you just hope you get some luck in running and are drawn on the right side,” the trainer concluded.
