Sandown good to soft for Eclipse Stakes

The going at Sandown remains good to soft ahead of this afternoon’s Coral-Eclipse Stakes.

The Esher track experienced some heavy showers on Thursday night and during racing yesterday, changing the ground from good to good to soft.

“We had about a millimetre of rain early yesterday evening and it’s been dry and blustery since then. A millimetre is a fairly insignificant amount of rain and it wouldn’t have made much difference,” said clerk of the course Andrew Cooper.

Connections of Rakti, the hot favourite for the Eclipse, expressed some worries about the ground yesterday and Cooper believes there is a chance of more rain today.

“There’s a possibility of more showers coming through today but they could be more localised. We will leave it as good to soft then see what happens during the day,” he added.

“You can almost feel the ground drying this morning so it might just end up a little bit dead. We could get another shower of rain though so I can’t see it being any quicker than good to soft today.”
