Vinnie Roe’s participation in Thursday’s Gold Cup at Royal Ascot is in slight doubt due to a muscle problem and the quick ground at the track.

Trainer Dermot Weld reports the six-year-old, who finished second to Royal Rebel in the race two years ago, to have tight muscles after working over the weekend.

He told the Racing Post: “Vinnie Roe worked on Sunday and has been a little tight in his quarter muscles for the past 24 hours. There is a slight concern. He is getting physio and while it is still the plan to run, we will have to review the situation tomorrow and see how he responds.

“I would also like to see a little ease in the ground as running on very fast ground might aggravate the situation.”
