Johnson in hospital after horror fall
Kenny Johnson is in hospital today recovering from the injuries he received in a horrific fall at Uttoxeter last night.
The British-based jockey fractured a shoulder, broke five ribs and punctured a lung when Red Perk came down at the fifth-last fence in the totesport Handicap Chase.
The Richard Guest-trained seven-year-old was fourth and weakening when he fell.
The next race was delayed by 25 minutes while the county air ambulance arrived at the scene, and Johnson was taken away in the helicopter to the North Staffordshire Hospital in Stoke.
His trainer-father Bob, who is on holiday in Minorca, said: “I hope to speak to Kenny tonight. He will stay in hospital for at least three or four days for observation, I’ve been told.”
