Dettori's appeal to be heard

Frankie Dettori will have his appeal, against a two-day ban imposed by the Sandown stewards last week, heard by the Jockey Club’s disciplinary panel tomorrow.

The Italian was found guilty of careless riding when he won the bonusprint.com Henry II Stakes on Papineau on May 31.

Papineau had to survive a stewards’ inquiry into the interference that caused Kieren Fallon to snatch up on Mr Dinos in the last half-furlong and lose what he claimed was a winning chance.

Although Dettori received a suspension (June 11 and 12 pending his appeal) for careless riding, the result was allowed to stand.

The hearing, at which Fallon will give evidence, is scheduled to start at 9.15am.

The appeal was due to be the first attended by the press but because of a clash of dates with the British Horseracing Board Annual General Meeting that innovation has now been delayed.

Meanwhile, Steve Drowne will contest the decision by the Kempton stewards to ban him for three days for careless riding on the unplaced Handsome Cross at Kempton Park last Wednesday.

The suspension currently rules Drowne out of the first three days of Royal Ascot (June 15, 16 and 17) and the hearing is due to start at 11am.

Conditional jockey Ciaran Eddery will appeal against a four-day ban meted out by the Sedgefield stewards on May 25.

The officials at the County Durham track found Eddery, the rider of Cha Cha Cha Dancer, in breach of Rule 153 in respect of improper riding in that he used his whip in annoyance after the horse had finished second in the Galaxy “No.1 For Dance And R&B” Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

Kelly’s hearing is due to start at noon.

Apprentices Dominic Fox and Luke Fletcher will have their appeals against careless riding bans, of nine and five days respectively, heard by the disciplinary panel on Monday.
